So… Life Imitates Art, right…? Well, that’s what happened.
Trapped at home in a COVID lockdown (remember COVID…?) I had a little epiphany. For years, I’d had little flashes of inspiration rattling around in my head. Glimpses of characters… snippets of conversations… what if? scenarios… a vague premise or two… And one day, I had a mind-blowing realisation. They all fitted together!!! And when I put it all together, it made an (almost!) fully-cooked story!
But exactly like the psychic nightmares hijacked Cressida’s life, Cressida & Co hijacked mine! My new Imaginary Friends began taking over most of my waking thoughts. And my dreams. I started dropping crumbs in After Midnight for not just the next book… but the next one… and the one after that. And as spider web got bigger… and more intricate!… I had the glorious and terrifying realisation that changed everything. Cressida wasn’t a One Book Wonder. She wasn’t even a trilogy. She was going to span the entire freaking alphabet! Yup. There will be 26 Psychic Detective Mysteries. From A right through to Z. I’d like to promise you three new instalments every year… two is certainly achievable. She’s probably never going to be a good decision maker… but her heart will always be in the right place. And if my browser history hasn’t already got me flagged, I guess I’ll have that to look forward to…
